Razor bumps,
treated at the root.
Razor bumps aren't a hygiene problem or a shaving-technique problem. They come from the shape of the hair itself. That's why the most effective plans reduce the hair, then clear the marks it leaves.
Razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae, or PFB) are painful bumps caused by curved hairs growing back into the skin after shaving. They're very common with tightly curled hair and can leave dark marks and scarring. PSRx treats the cause with Nd:YAG 1064nm laser hair reduction, built for darker skin, and treats the marks and scars bumps leave behind.

Razor bumps often come with marks and scars. Each one is treated a little differently, so we look at all three.

Razor Bumps (Pseudofolliculitis Barbae) FAQ.
What causes razor bumps?
Razor bumps happen when shaved, curved hairs curl back into the skin as they grow, causing inflammation. They're most common with tightly curled hair, especially on the beard and neck. Close shaves make them worse, because the sharp tip of the hair sits just below the surface.
Does laser hair removal get rid of razor bumps?
Laser hair reduction is one of the most effective ways to reduce razor bumps, because it treats the cause: the hair. With fewer and finer hairs, there's less to grow back into the skin. Most people need a series of sessions, and your provider will estimate how many at consultation.
Is laser safe for razor bumps on Black skin?
Yes, when it's done with the right laser. The Nd:YAG 1064nm laser is designed for darker skin because it reaches the hair follicle while sparing surface pigment. PSRx builds every plan around your skin type and trains other providers in exactly this kind of care.
Can I keep my beard and still treat razor bumps?
PSRx doesn't offer beard-line shaping. Laser reduces hair across the area that's treated, so it's best for people who want the bumps, and the hair behind them, gone from that area. If keeping a full beard matters to you, we'll talk through your options honestly at consultation.
Will the dark marks from razor bumps go away?
Most dark marks from razor bumps fade, especially once new bumps stop forming. Laser reduces new bumps, and pigment treatments like Precise Peels and skincare help fade the marks that are already there. On darker skin, marks can take months to clear fully.
Why do I get bumps on my chin and neck as a woman?
Bumps on the chin and neck in women often come from coarse hair growth in that area, which can have hormonal causes such as PCOS. We review this neutrally at consultation, treat the hair and bumps, and recommend a medical check when it's needed.
