How many sessions
will your tattoo take?
Most tattoos take 5–12 sessions for complete removal, spaced 6–8 weeks apart. Your number depends on your ink, where the tattoo is, your skin type and how your body clears ink between visits.
Six things that
set your timeline.
No two tattoos clear the same way. We assess each of these before building your plan.
Why sessions are
6–8 weeks apart.
The laser shatters the ink; your immune system removes it, carrying the fragments away through your lymphatic system. That takes weeks. Treating again too soon stacks new fragments on ink that hasn't cleared, making each session less effective.
- ✦Days 1–3: redness, swelling and possible blistering over dense ink
- ✦Days 4–10: scabbing as the skin seals over
- ✦Weeks 2–4: the most visible fading as your body flushes the ink
- ✦Weeks 4–8: continued clearing before your next session
What you can do
to speed up fading.
The time between sessions is not downtime — it is when the ink actually leaves. These habits support it.

Tattoo removal sessions FAQ.
How many sessions does tattoo removal take?
Most tattoos take 5–12 sessions for complete removal. Professional, multi-color work on hands, feet or ankles trends toward the higher end. We give you a realistic range at your consultation based on your specific tattoo.
Why can't I have sessions closer together?
Your immune system needs 6–8 weeks to carry the shattered ink away. Treating sooner adds new fragments on top of ink that has not cleared, making each session less effective — the spacing is biological, not arbitrary.
Is blistering normal after tattoo removal?
Yes. White frosting right after treatment and blistering over dense ink in the first few days are normal responses. Do not pop or pick them — let them resolve on their own.
When will I see the tattoo fading?
The most visible fading happens 2–4 weeks after a session, and it continues until your next visit — many clients notice the area looks lighter at week 6 than at week 2.
Can I just lighten a tattoo for a cover-up?
Yes. If you are planning a cover-up, strategic lightening — typically 2–4 sessions — gives your artist a cleaner canvas without full removal.
Can you remove microblading or permanent makeup?
Yes, with a modified approach. Cosmetic pigments are often iron-oxide based and can darken before they clear, so a patch test is required first.
